Celeb Friday – Ms. Smarty Pants

jenplym2If you’re a mom in Charlotte, you know her.  If you want to be a mom in Charlotte, you will know her.  And even if you’re never a mom in Charlotte, you should know her.  Jen Plym is the founder of the infamous Web site for Charlotte mamas, CHARLOTTE SMARTY PANTS!  She hot in looks, cool in personality, incredibly amazing overall.  We love Jen Plym!  Here she is, in her own words….

NAME: Jen Plym
PROFESSION: Mom by day, blogger by night (www.charlottesmartypants.com)
AGE: 38
WHERE DO YOU LIVE? SouthPark
TODAY’S wax: What is your favorite thing in Charlotte? This isn’t necessarily my favorite thing, but it’s something you may not have heard of. Did you know we have our very own Karaoke Cabbie in Charlotte? This guy rigged a full-on karaoke get-up in the back of his cab and he’s a riot! I have him programmed in my iPhone just in case – Billy Rivera (704-661-6873). Click here for a sample…

1) What do you wear to bed? Bedhead PJs

2) Do you smoke when no one is watching? Absolutely not. Lung cancer is the leading cause of ALL cancer deaths in the US – more than breast, prostate, colorectal and pancreatic cancers COMBINED. I lost my best friend and business partner to lung cancer 1 1/2 years ago – she never smoked a day in her life. Got your attention yet? Cigarettes are the devil.

3) Do you throw litter out the window of your car? Never – do people really still do this?

4) What do you do when you’re all alone at home? Are you kidding me? This mom of 4 is NEVER at home alone! But if I was, I would probably be working on my Smarty blog of the day.

5) What is your biggest vice? Carbs – how sad is that?! Never in a million years did I think my “treat” would be a piece of bread or pasta. But my body at this age is telling me something I don’t want to hear! AND all HBO mini-series – love Entourage, True Blood, Hung (this one just cracks me up!). HBO has redefined Sunday night television.

6) Have you ever been in a physical fight? Do tell. Yes, in high school. I came from a crazy small town in FL that could rival that of 90210, Melrose and Real Housewives of any county combined. All that I’ll say is that I was an innocent victim and at least 6 inches shorter than the girl who sucker-punched me. This girl actually beat up a football player after me! Now, I may have been a smart-ass at the time (go figure, now that I’m all grown up I have a crazy little site called Smarty Pants!), but certainly didn’t deserve to be in that situation. I was horrified that girls often fought in our town – who does that?! I think that girl is a professional nanny now – nice, huh?!

7) If you had $1,000 that you had to spend today on someone else, what would you buy? Partial down-payment on a new car for hubby. He drives a vintage 1998 Honda Accord, very hip in this recession! No cd-player, no leather, no bling whatsoever. He doesn’t mind a bit – that’s what I love about him, so low-maintenance! My only problem with the vehicle is when we go on vacay sans kids, we have no tunes, not even a place to plug in our iPod. Oh, and it’s super annoying not to have an extra 3rd row vehicle to tote around 6 kids (we always have carpool buds) on any given day.

8. If you could have a magical power, what would it be? Read people’s minds, inspired by my new obsession, vampire books – love me some Twilight and True Blood.

9) What do you most like about your appearance? Legs

10) On what do you spend too much money? My kids. Pre-kids, it used to be shoes. Post-kids, it’s kids. They squeeze every dime out of you even when they don’t know how to ask! I actually get pleasure out of buying clothes/toys/gear for my kids. They are only young once and I say dress ‘em up while you can! They form a strong opinion soon enough.

11) What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done for money? Sold my kids’ toys on eBay even when they were still playing with them.

12) Where would we typically find you on a Saturday night? If I’m out, I’m at a wine bar. My fave is The Wine Shop in Foxcroft.

13) What do you eat more of than anything else? Does a drink count? I’m 100% addicted to Chick-fil-A large unsweet tea with 3 lemons.

14) What is the last thing you did that was truly awesome? We do something awesome daily on Charlotte Smarty Pants on our CSP Cares page. We get daily emails from so many Smarty women doing INCREDIBLE things in Charlotte. We received so many that we created a cool place to host their stories. Our most recent fundraising efforts brought in over $10,000 for lung cancer research last month.

15) What is your biggest regret? Not telling my best friend that she was in fact my best friend before she died. Hopefully my actions spoke louder than words. Still miss her so. But I turned this regret into an incredible pink & green movement with Charlotte Smarty Pants. We started this blog together 2 years ago and I carried it on in her name and legacy. I surrounded myself with a team of Smarty women who helped me make what CSP is today. Every time I log on, I see a piece of her on the site. It is truly a beautiful thing.
