From Owlabama
As you crazy cats know by now, us waxMAMAS love anything that is original and made by the “little man” (or “little woman”… pipe down Friedan). When we found a paper company that works out of an 800 square foot office, yet is able to produce enough product to sell to over 700 stores, we couldn’t help but take off our ear muffs.
Based in Birmingham, “Owlabama,” NIGHT OWL PAPER GOODS, is owned and operated by two long-time buddies, Alan Henderson and Jennifer Tatham. They make gift cards, boxed cards, journals and jotters and offer what few card companies today can… original, letterpress art that is done by hand. And, most all of the designs are based on their love of Swedish and American folk art and cute critters (check out “Penelope Pirate Owl” below). At the risk of sounding like girls, we must say that they are simply “too cute!”
One of the most unique things about NOPG, however, is that they offer a whole line of products that are printed on yellow birch WOOD! Yep, wood. It’s so thin that it’s easy to both write and print on, AND it’s environmentally friendly and very durable. Mother Nature is one, amazing lady.
We are simply enamored with the whimsical, yet simple nature of these cards. Now, if only they all housed that annual $100 that grandma used to send… (Come ON Penelope Pirate, times are tough. Think about it.)
Order online (there is a flat $5 charge for all US shipping), or, select items can be found at Three Little Birds and Salutations.
