The Wild Things

lazy 5Let the wild rumpus begin!

Max is right on track because LAZY 5 RANCH has opened for the season and the wild things are ready to rock and roll.  Lazy 5 is a privately held exotic animal park that was opened in 1993 by Henry Hampton and is one of THE BEST ways to spend an afternoon.  After a steady hour drive to Mooresville, you will enter a world like none you’ve ever seen before.  Filled with over 750 animals from six different continents, you’ll find yourself nose-to-nose with the likes of zebra, scimitar horned oryx, giraffe, ring-tailed lemur, and hundreds of others.

You have the choice to either drive your car through the 3.5 mile park ($8.50) or take the recommended open-air wagon ride ($10.50).  And, for $3.00 extra, you can buy a bucket of feed and feed the animals right.out.of.your.hand.  Really.  When is the last time that an 18′ giraffe bent down to give you a nibble?  (We’d take a nibble from just about anyone these days.)

This is a highly recommended day trip for kids and adults alike.  Take a picnic lunch with you, bring your friends, and even enter the “Name this Giraffe” contest that is going on until June 15.  It’s our inner child at its best.  Maybe Shrek will be there…
