Weekeeend wax – 02.04.10
Have you missed me? Glad to have Weekeeend wax back in action. Here are some upcoming faves…
ALL THE TIME – We must sing “Hallelujah” to the music gods as THE NEIGHBORHOOD THEATRE is NOT closing! After a serious scare, they received enormous support from the community and have decided to keep their doors open. As this is, in our opinion, one of the best music venues in Charlotte due to particulars such as $3 tall boys, first come first served seating, and its location in NoDa, we must all do our part to keep them open. Some events to note are The Haiti Benefit on 02/11 and The Marshall Tucker Band on 02/12.
COCK, TAILS, & FUNDRAISING – TOMORROW, 7:00-10:00 pm – There is a charity group called TRIAD Trust. These folks send volunteers to southern Africa to identify, train and empower local community leaders with the skills, tools and confidence necessary to create and sustain sports, arts, and media-based HIV-education programs. And, they are having a fundraiser!! Come out for COCKTAILS FOR THE CAUSE where you will find a cash bar and silent auction. Event to held at FABO (1523 Elizabeth Avenue). We are betting on some seriously interesting convos at this event.
FASHION & JAGS - TOMORROW, 6:00-9:00 pm – Fashion designer Blaine Degannes of Rain Anthology will present an exclusive viewing of “FEMININE NOT FRAGILE,” his Spring 2010 collection. Degannes was featured most recently in 2009 for Toronto’s LG Fashion Week Beauty by L’Oréal Paris! Event will be at Scott Jaguar (400 Tyvola Road). Ressies required by tomorrow at noon: jameka@jswmediagroup.com. Cocktail attire ladies, i.e. no space suits, Gaga.
FEEL BETTER – February 11, 7:00 pm – The 6th Annual YMCA COMMUNITY FORUM is coming up… these are always great. The speaker will be Dr. Richard Swenson, author of Margin: Restoring Emotional, Physical, Financial, and Time Reserves to Overloaded Lives, who will give advice to help you restore balance in your life in areas such as emotional and physical energy, time and finances. Tickets are $25, can be bought at the Dowd Y. All proceeds will go to support the Stratford Richardson YMCA. Event to be held at Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church.
SHOW YOUR BOOBS! - February 11, 7:30 – 11:00 pm – It’s the ninth year of BEADS FOR NEEDS! A fundraiser for A Child’s Place, BFN is always a guaranteed good time. This year, there will be live music by Mr. Potato Head, food and bevvies from area restaurants and gazillions of beads, boas and masks. $30 in advance and $40 at the door (includes all food, beer and wine). Event to be held at Andrew Blair’s (1600 Montford Drive).
